Windows Azure Adds Support For Hadoop And Dropbox

Windows Azure is a platform for cloud computing, developed by software giant Microsoft. It is mainly used for creating, developing and controlling services and applications using a global network of datacenters managed by Microsoft. It supports many programming languages, tools and frameworks which include both Microsoft-specific and third party software.

Windows Azure uses a unique operating system, called Windows Azure, so that it can run the fabric layer which a cloud computing cluster that Microsoft's datacenters hosts. One of the bets advantages of Windows Azure is that services do not crash if one of the servers within the Microsoft datacenters crashes. Microsoft recently announced the release of the new Windows Azure multi-factor authentication for IT professionals and users. This new security capability is available for any application that will be used on the cloud infrastructure. In addition Windows Azure will also get new support for a wide variety of other services which include PhoneGap, DropBox and Hadoop. In a post made by Scott Guthrie, the corporate vice president in the Microsoft Tools and Servers group developers get to connect to HTML5 web-client apps, Apache Cordova/PhoneGap, as well as Windows Phone 7.5 clients, allowing them to use Windows Azure Mobile Services as a backend. He wrote that the new mobile services web client library supports Internet Explorer 8 and “current versions of Chrome, Firefox, and Safari, plus PhoneGap 2.3.0+.”

In addition Windows Azure also supports site and app development using Dropbox to any website. Windows Azure will also be supporting Mercurial repositories, as it plans to set up continuous deployment of websites from the repositories of CodePlex or Bitbucket. Reports also suggest that user interface will see more updates and improvements.

A new service added to Windows Azure called HDInsight will provide users with the capability to deploy, control and use Hadoop clusters that employ Windows Azure.

The user interface employed in Windows Azure is a differentiator for Microsoft. It holds integrity and consistency with the user interface employed by the company. The Amazon web service which still dominates in popularity as a program, used from the command line, can be compared to these latest improvements.
